John Peter Smith Hospital (JPS) has entered its fifth consecutive day of network disruption after identifying suspicious activity within its IT infrastructure. The health system initiated downtime procedures on Monday morning to scan its environment and assess the scope of the incident.

The outage initially impacted several patient resources, including online portals and telephone lines. By Tuesday, staff had shifted to manual processes for daily operations, which resulted in slower service times for some users. Technology teams are working continuously to evaluate systems and support ongoing hospital functions.

JPS spokesperson Dawn Fernald told the Fort Worth Report that the facility expects the disruption to persist for several more days. She described the restoration process as requiring careful, methodical work to ensure safety before returning to normal operations.

Clinical leaders are using established quality checks and operational assessments to evaluate services during this period. Some care offerings may be temporarily paused, adjusted, or relocated depending on the ability to provide safe treatment without full digital access.

Patients whose appointments require changes are being contacted directly by their care teams. The health network has stated that individuals needing assistance can reach out via the phone lines listed on its announcement website.

As of 3 p.m. on Aug. 7, JPS confirmed it was still operating under controlled network downtime. Further details regarding the specific nature of the suspicious activity or the timeline for full restoration were not provided.
