Two Fort Worth police officers were involved in a traffic collision Thursday night after an intoxicated driver failed to yield the right of way, according to city officials.

The incident occurred at an intersection while the officers were traveling in their patrol vehicle with emergency lights and sirens activated. A separate driver did not stop or yield as required, resulting in a crash between the two vehicles.

Law enforcement confirmed that the driver of the other vehicle was under the influence of alcohol. That individual was transported to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. Following medical care, the driver was taken into custody and transported to the Tarrant County jail.

The identities of the intoxicated driver have not been released to the public. The two police officers involved in the crash were examined by medical personnel at the scene. Officials stated that both officers were cleared and have been released from medical care.

The Fort Worth Police Department has opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. Details regarding potential charges or the specific location of the intersection are not yet available.
