Fort Worth officials are introducing a new mobile veterinary service designed to provide free spay and neuter surgeries to residential pet owners. The initiative, named Chip & Snip, will begin operations on July 18, according to a city news release.

The program utilizes a specialized trailer equipped with modern medical technology to perform surgeries on-site. In addition to sterilization procedures, the mobile unit will offer microchipping and basic vaccinations. Residents can schedule appointments through the Chip & Snip portal on the city’s official website. Eligibility for the service depends on the resident’s ZIP code and the specific neighborhood the city has assigned to the clinic’s schedule.

The mobile unit will travel to designated neighborhoods, allowing pet owners to drop off their animals at a pre-arranged time and retrieve them on the same day at no cost. Chris McAllister, assistant director of Fort Worth Animal Care & Control (FWACC), stated that the program aims to bring essential services directly to areas with the highest need. He described the effort as a partnership with residents to make responsible pet care more accessible.

FWACC reported that its shelter facilities have already performed 5,335 spay and neuter surgeries since the beginning of the 2025-26 fiscal year. The city launched the mobile initiative to encourage responsible pet ownership and assist owners in obtaining necessary veterinary care. According to the release, spaying and neutering pets reduces the likelihood of certain cancers and decreases behaviors such as roaming, fighting, and marking territory. The city also notes that these procedures help curb the population of homeless animals and unplanned litters.

Details regarding the specific neighborhoods scheduled for the first few weeks of the mobile clinic’s operation were not provided in the initial announcement. Residents are encouraged to check the city website for the most current schedule and eligibility requirements.
