Fort Worth Police are investigating a fatal shooting involving one of their officers that occurred Sunday morning. The incident took place around 6:16 a.m. along the 9200 block of Renee Circle in the western part of the city, near the interchange of Interstate 820 and Interstate 30.
Police Chief Eddie Garcia stated that officers responded to a domestic disturbance call. Upon arrival, they found a suspect who had kicked in an apartment door and was fighting inside. The suspect exited the residence wielding a knife.
Garcia said officers ordered the individual to drop the weapon, but the suspect allegedly continued to advance toward them. An officer then discharged their firearm, striking the suspect.
The suspect was transported to a hospital for treatment but later died. The identity of the individual has not been released. Garcia confirmed that an internal investigation into the shooting is currently underway.
This event occurred less than 24 hours after another Fort Worth officer fatally shot a suspect in the far south part of the city. Garcia said that on Saturday evening, officers were pursuing a suspect along South Freeway who had reportedly cut off their ankle monitor. The suspect’s original charge was sexual assault of a minor.
