Dr. Peter Licata, the newly appointed superintendent of Fort Worth ISD, will provide an overview of the first week of the 2026-2027 school year during a media event on Friday at 3 p.m. The gathering will take place at William Monnig Middle School.
Licata plans to address several operational priorities, including student enrollment figures, staffing levels, transportation logistics, and physical improvements across campuses. He also intends to acknowledge students, teachers, and staff members who contributed to the initial week’s success.
Licata was selected by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) alongside a board of managers to replace the district’s elected school board last year. This appointment marks the first time the state agency has assumed direct control of the district.
The district has identified 19 campuses as ELEVATE sites, designating them as needing support to improve academic performance. Alongside this designation, Fort Worth ISD released its A-F accountability ratings on Friday.
The data indicates that many campuses saw improvements, including some previously listed as ELEVATE sites. The district noted a decrease in the number of campuses receiving D or F grades compared to the previous school year, which occurred before the state takeover.
