Coyote Drive-In in Fort Worth is scheduled to end operations after 14 years of service. The final screenings are set for Labor Day weekend, with the last showing taking place on Monday, Sept. 7.
Owner Chris Fortune stated that the closure is due to the expiration of the lease agreement with the Tarrant Regional Water District. The water district has decided to utilize the property for new infrastructure, including two canals and a three-acre park. Additional development on the site is planned to include homes and businesses.
Fortune described the venue as a destination for families and community members of all ages. He noted that the drive-in served as a rare option for moviegoers during the pandemic when traditional theaters were closed. "Our goal was to make Coyote a fun, safe, family place," Fortune said.
As the venue prepares to close, the owner reported an increase in attendance as patrons come to say goodbye. The final events will feature food trucks, live music, and popcorn. "It'll be sad to go," Fortune told CBS News Texas.
