TCU chancellor Daniel Pullin resigns after 17 months as Victor Boschini returns to lead the university

The university gave no reason for Thursday's resignation, effective immediately; trustees brought back Boschini, who led TCU for 22 years, without an interim title.

Texas Christian University has a new chancellor, and he is a familiar one.

Daniel Pullin resigned Thursday, effective immediately, less than 17 months after becoming the private university's 11th chancellor, the Fort Worth Report reported. Trustees named Victor Boschini Jr., who led TCU for 22 years before Pullin, as chancellor again, also effective immediately and without an interim title.

The university statement obtained by the Report, dated Oct. 22, did not say why Pullin left or describe any separation terms.

"We thank Daniel for his years of service at TCU. We wish him and his family only the best," Kit Moncrief, chair of the board of trustees, said in the statement. Moncrief said Boschini will carry out the university's strategic plan and oversee daily campus life.

Pullin said in his own statement that he loves TCU's students and is proud of what lies ahead for them. "Thank you to everyone at TCU. I will always be invested in what TCU stands for," he said.

A short tenure after a long runway

Pullin came to TCU in 2019 as dean of the Neeley School of Business. After a national search, he became president on Feb. 1, 2023, reporting to Boschini, and the two announced a succession plan in December 2024. Pullin took over as chancellor on June 1, 2025. The university never filled the president's job after his move.

He helped shape the expansion plan he leaves behind. TCU aims to reach about 17,900 students by 2035 and earn Carnegie R1 status, the top research classification, which is based on research spending and doctoral degrees. The university enrolled a record 13,241 students this fall and welcomed its largest incoming class for the second year running, according to the Report.

To house that growth by fall 2027, TCU has announced more than $500 million in outside investment for about 2,450 new campus beds and roughly 780 more at Morado on Berry, a development that also includes retail space.

During Pullin's time as chancellor, TCU started TCU for Texans, which covers full tuition and some food and housing costs for qualifying incoming Texas students from families earning under $100,000. In June, a $10 million gift launched the Roach Institute of Athlete Engineering.

His tenure also brought friction with faculty. In October 2025, the university said it would fold its race and gender studies departments into the English department. Faculty members questioned the lack of consultation and whether political pressure played a role; administrators cited enrollment and finances and denied any political motive, the Report said.

The change comes two months after UT Arlington President Jennifer Cowley stepped down in August and returned to a faculty position.
