Texas authorities are investigating the illegal killing of three alligators at the Fort Worth Nature Center on Lake Worth. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department announced Friday that it is seeking public assistance to identify those responsible for the incident.
Operation Game Thief, the agency’s anti-poaching initiative, has authorized a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to a conviction. The department stated that the shootings took place at the nature center sometime between May and July.
Officials noted that at least one of the animals was struck with a crossbow bolt, which suggests intentional targeting. The carcasses of the two alligators that died were abandoned and left to waste, according to the agency.
