Dallas and Tarrant County are hosting their annual back-to-school events on Friday to assist families with the costs of preparing for the upcoming academic year. The gatherings provide free backpacks, grade-appropriate supplies, and health screenings alongside access to community resources.
The Dallas Mayor's 30th Annual Back to School Fair is taking place at Fair Park, located at 3809 Grand Avenue. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes haircuts, dental and vision checks, and booths for community organizations. Organizers state the fair has assisted more than 10,000 families each year since its inception in 1996.
While advance registration is encouraged, walk-ins are accepted, with priority given to Dallas residents and Dallas ISD students who meet income guidelines.
Mayor Eric Johnson described the event as a comprehensive community effort that has evolved from a simple supply drive into a large-scale operation involving hundreds of vendors. He noted that the fair now provides nearly everything students need for the school year at no cost. The mayor shared his presence at the event on social media, highlighting the distribution of supplies and other essentials.
Simultaneously, the 20th annual Tarrant County Back to School Roundup is being held at Tarrant County College South Campus, 5301 Campus Drive in Fort Worth. This event also runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and offers free school supplies, backpacks, immunizations, and health services. Organizers anticipate serving over 3,000 students and family members.
Walk-ins are welcome starting at noon on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Eligibility requires Tarrant County residency and meeting federal poverty guidelines.
