Former U.S. Education Secretary Margaret Spellings said Fort Worth’s approach to early learning offers ideas for policymakers, according to a September 30 interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Spellings joined Mayor Mattie Parker at Child Care Associates’ annual investors luncheon in downtown Fort Worth that day. The discussion connected early education with later workforce preparation.

In the newspaper interview, Spellings called for stronger coordination among childcare programs and more use of data to guide resources and assess results. She highlighted Parker’s Blue Ribbon Action Committee on Child Care and work by Child Care Associates as examples she believes other communities can learn from.

Spellings is president and CEO of the Bipartisan Policy Center.
