The Rio Mambo Tex-Mex chain is reducing its footprint with the closure of three suburban restaurants. Locations in Burleson, Colleyville, and Weatherford have shut their doors, according to an employee at the remaining Fort Worth site.
The parent company, Xperience Restaurant Group, has also closed The Rim Scratch Craft Eats restaurant in Fort Worth. The Rim, which operated in the Waterside shops, ceased operations on July 26.
Despite these closures, the original Rio Mambo location remains open. Situated at 6125 SW Loop 820 in Cityview Centre, that specific restaurant stayed operational on Tuesday. Founder Brent Johnson opened that site on September 11, 2001.
Xperience Restaurant Group acquired Rio Mambo in 2023. The group also owns El Torito, a national chain with a history spanning 75 years. Before the acquisition, Rio Mambo had expanded to multiple locations.
The shutdowns occur amid a broader wave of closures for corporate Tex-Mex chains. On the Border, founded in Dallas, has closed several spots. Fort Worth-based Fuzzy’s Taco Shop has also seen multiple locations shut down. More than half of the Amarillo-founded Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant locations have closed.
