Fort Worth police have taken into custody Patrick Lawrence, 37, on suspicion of murder following a fatal road rage shooting on Interstate 20. The incident occurred Thursday morning near Trail Lake Drive in southwest Fort Worth and resulted in the death of LaTaivia Davis, an employee of the Everman Independent School District.

According to police, Davis was driving eastbound on the highway when Lawrence pulled his vehicle alongside hers. Witnesses reported that Lawrence fired shots at her car before fleeing the scene. First responders arrived to provide medical assistance, but Davis was pronounced dead at the location.

The shooting caused significant disruptions, shutting down Interstate 20 for several hours while officers conducted their investigation. The arrest operation involved a wide range of police units, including patrol officers, homicide detectives, recruits, the Operations and Surveillance Team, the Directed Response Unit, and the city’s Real Time Crime Center.

Davis is listed on the Everman school district website as an art aide at E. Ray Elementary School. Authorities believe she was traveling to her workplace when the shooting took place. The school district issued a statement acknowledging the loss of a family member and confirming that counseling resources are being made available to students and staff.

Lawrence is currently facing murder charges. Police indicated that an arrest warrant affidavit containing further details about the evidence against him will be released to the media on Friday. The Fort Worth Police Department expressed condolences to Davis’s family and loved ones, describing the event as a tragic loss.
