A shooting in the Sendera Ranch neighborhood of far north Fort Worth has intensified a local debate over safety and housing policies. The incident occurred last week, prompting residents to express conflicting views on how to reduce violence in the area.
Daniel Bryant reported hearing approximately 15 gunshots around 8:30 a.m. on a Friday morning. He initially believed the noise was an attempt to break into his truck, a common issue in the area, but realized the sound came from his neighbor’s driveway on Zavala Road. Video footage shared with the Star-Telegram shows a red SUV approaching a white sedan in the driveway.
A person in the SUV appears to speak to the occupants before driving away. A man then exits the sedan and fires multiple shots in the direction of the departing vehicle.
Jail records indicate that three individuals were taken into custody: Damoni Butler, 18; Davirion Sams, 20; and Walter Frazier, 21. All three face charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Bryant, who described Butler and Frazier as previously well-mannered, expressed disbelief at the events and worried they were caught in a difficult situation.
The gunfire struck a house and a vehicle on Santa Rosa Drive, both owned by Robby Carruthers. Carruthers, who has lived in the neighborhood with his family since 2020, stated that crime has worsened annually as new homes are built. He vowed to remain in the area and resist any efforts to displace residents.
Fort Worth Crime Data shows a fluctuation in reported incidents in Sendera Ranch. Reports rose from 88 in 2021 to 149 in 2023, with theft and larceny being the most common categories. The total dropped to 145 in 2024 and 116 in 2025, with vandalism becoming the primary offense.
