Fort Worth police are asking the public to help find a driver who hit a motorcyclist on Interstate 35W and kept going, leaving a 29-year-old Army National Guard veteran with injuries his family says will take months to heal.

Kris Rodriguez was struck on Sept. 27 while riding on I-35W in the Northside Drive area, NBC 5 reported. Police said the crash happened around 9:30 p.m. near the Yucca Avenue exit.

Detectives believe the driver was in a sedan with four doors, gray or another light color and possibly a Toyota. The car may show damage on its front or passenger side.

Injuries and recovery

Rodriguez is still in the hospital. According to his mother, Sylvia Amos, his injuries include a broken collarbone that punctured a lung, several broken ribs, a fractured pelvis and a ruptured bladder. He has had surgeries, and his family expects a long recovery.

His father, Chris Amos, said the family assumes the driver did not see his son while cutting over to reach the exit.

According to his family, Rodriguez had come home only weeks earlier from a Middle East deployment that included time in Kuwait and Qatar, and he survived the January 2024 drone strike at a U.S. military base in Jordan in which three U.S. service members died. Since returning, he had landed a new job, moved to a new place in Fort Worth and bought the motorcycle, they said.

The family lives in the Austin area and has been making repeated trips to see him. They said medical and travel costs are adding up and they are hoping for a medical transport to bring him closer to them.

His parents told NBC 5 they worry the investigation has stalled and have joined police in posting on social media for tips. Speaking to the driver, Chris Amos said, "Don't tuck your tail and run."

Police ask anyone who saw the crash or knows about the car to call the Fort Worth Police Department.
