Sarah Angle, a writer and instructor at Texas Christian University, organized a new art exhibition in Fort Worth that centers on the concept of failure. The show, titled The He(ART) of Failure, opened recently and features works by ten local artists who agreed to display pieces representing their own missteps.
Angle co-curated the project with Jocelyn Foster. The pair decided to realize a New Year’s resolution they had made 15 years prior to experience more failure. A social media post from six months ago prompted them to act on that goal, leading to the creation of the exhibit.
The artists involved included Elena Greer, who displayed glass works that reflect her process of adapting to difficult situations. Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Gayle Reaves-King contributed poetry that emerged from the end of her first marriage and subsequent grief.
Layla Caraway presented a piece called Holding it Together, which consists of a shirt and jeans assembled with duct tape to symbolize holding life together during a tight deadline.
Angle noted that she had never curated a show or created art before taking on this project, acknowledging the high likelihood of failure. She described failure as a necessary component of growth, stating that it fuels personal development and professional achievement.
