Lee Nguyen has been appointed as the manager and technical director for Dallas Trinity FC, marking a return to the North Texas region for the former professional soccer player. The club, which is located in Dallas, approximately 31 miles east of Fort Worth, announced the hiring on July 3, 2026. Nguyen becomes the third first-team manager in the organization's history.
Nguyen brings extensive experience from his playing career and recent coaching roles. He played professionally for 17 seasons across leagues in the Netherlands, Denmark, Vietnam, and Major League Soccer. His MLS tenure included more than 250 appearances for the New England Revolution, LAFC, and Inter Miami CF. He was a finalist for the 2014 MLS Most Valuable Player Award and helped LAFC win the 2019 Supporters’ Shield. He also earned nine caps for the United States Men’s National Team.
Following his playing career, Nguyen transitioned into coaching. He served as an assistant coach for Seattle Reign FC and later as a coach in the National Women's Soccer League. During his time in the NWSL, he helped the Washington Spirit win the 2021 championship. His coaching path was initially influenced by his time during the pandemic, when he returned to North Texas to coach girls' teams for the Dallas Texans.
Brian Corcoran, the sporting director for Atlético Dallas, which owns Trinity FC through USL Dallas, LLC, highlighted Nguyen’s local roots and professional background. Corcoran stated that the club prioritized investing in local talent and found Nguyen’s vision for building a winning culture compelling. He noted that Nguyen’s history as both a player and a coach made him a logical choice to lead the club into its next phase.
Nguyen expressed enthusiasm about returning to the area where he was born and raised. He attended Plano East Senior High School and played college soccer at Indiana University. He described the role as an honor and emphasized his desire to work with the existing staff and players to grow the women’s game in the community.
