A Fort Worth father has been charged with capital murder following the death of his 9-year-old daughter, Joanna. Police affidavits state that the child arrived at Cook Children's Medical Center in cardiac arrest. Medical records document numerous bruises across her back, thighs, and torso, including patterned injuries consistent with a belt. The medical examiner identified at least 30 contusions and significant soft tissue hemorrhaging in the head and neck area, ruling out natural causes or toxic substances.

The father, identified as Anderson, told investigators he found the girl vomiting and unresponsive after checking on her during a bath. He offered varying explanations for her head injuries, suggesting she struck the faucet or his hands while he pulled her from the tub. However, forensic analysis indicated the injuries matched areas he admitted to striking. Her biological mother also reported that the child had no prior medical issues and was developing normally.

Anderson remains held in the Fort Worth Jail. A bond amount has not yet been established, and it is not yet clear whether he has secured legal representation. If convicted, he faces life without parole or the death penalty.
