Lockheed Martin is positioning its missile defense division as a primary beneficiary of increasing global military expenditures, particularly in air and missile protection systems. The company’s portfolio features Patriot PAC-3 interceptors, the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system, and Precision Strike Missiles, all part of a long-term modernization effort.

During the first quarter of 2026, Lockheed Martin executed several long-term framework agreements with the U.S. government. These contracts aim to speed up the manufacturing of Patriot PAC-3, THAAD, and PrSM systems. The agreements are designed to fund production facility upgrades, expand supplier capabilities, and grow the workforce, which provides clearer visibility into future demand.

Company leadership anticipates that these efforts will triple or quadruple production rates in the coming years, reflecting confidence in sustained order flow. The Missiles and Fire Control segment saw sales jump 8.2% compared to the previous year. This growth was fueled by increased production of integrated air and missile defense programs, including PAC-3.

Additional revenue came from tactical missile programs such as the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile, the Long Range Anti-Ship Missile, and the Precision Strike Missile. These results indicate that rising customer demand is already improving operating performance. The broader defense spending environment supports this outlook, with the United States and allied nations prioritizing integrated air and missile defense as a core national security goal.

Structural trends favoring layered defense architectures, precision strike capabilities, and advanced interceptors are expected to remain central to defense budgets. Lockheed Martin faces competition from other major defense contractors. RTX Corporation is expanding its role in the Patriot system, while Northrop Grumman is strengthening its position through missile defense sensors and hypersonic technologies.

Financial estimates for Lockheed Martin show positive trends. The Zacks Consensus Estimate indicates year-over-year earnings per share growth of 29.5% for 2026 and 8.02% for 2027. From a valuation perspective, Lockheed Martin’s forward 12-month price-to-sales ratio is 1.47 times, which is a notable discount compared to the industry average of 2.54 times.

Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft System employs about 19,200 people in Fort Worth, according to local government records.
