American Airlines Group announced the election of John W. Dietrich to its board of directors. He will serve on both the Audit and Finance Committees.
Dietrich brings 35 years of experience in the aviation and air cargo sectors to the role. He most recently served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at FedEx from 2023 until 2026. Prior to his time at FedEx, he held positions as President and CEO of Atlas Air Worldwide and as General Counsel for the same company.
American Airlines Chairman Greg Smith stated that the company has confidence in Dietrich's expertise. Smith said this addition is expected to enhance the board's focus on long-term performance and shareholder value.
Dietrich is active in various aviation industry organizations. He holds degrees from Southern Illinois University and the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law.
American Airlines is currently celebrating its centennial year in 2026. The carrier operates more than 6,000 daily flights across over 350 destinations.
Separately, data from Quiver Quantitative shows that American Airlines insiders traded stock twice in the past six months. Both transactions were sales. David Seymour, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, sold 125,799 shares for an estimated $2,195,072.
