Fort Worth-based American plans to add Alaska to international joint businesses

Fort Worth-based American Airlines and Alaska Airlines plan to seek approval for Alaska to join American’s international joint businesses across the Atlantic and Pacific.

The carriers said they expect to submit applications to the U.S. Department of Transportation for approval and antitrust immunity in the coming months. They also plan to seek approvals from other relevant regulators. Alaska’s participation remains a proposal rather than an operating change already in effect.

American’s Atlantic partnership includes British Airways, Iberia, Finnair, Aer Lingus and LEVEL. Its Pacific joint business is with Japan Airlines.

The airlines say the proposed expansion would build on their existing relationship and improve international connections. Their announcement does not identify new Dallas-Fort Worth routes or a date when travelers would see changes.
