Aubrey's 60-yarder caps perfect kicking day in Cowboys' 37-20 win

ARLINGTON, Texas - Brandon Aubrey treated Sunday like a range session that happened to decide a football game. Three tries, three makes, including a 60-yarder that pushed a comfortable lead into a statement.

Aubrey went 3-for-3 on field goals from 25, 44 and 60 yards and 4-for-4 on extra points for 13 points in the Cowboys' 37-20 victory over the Commanders. ESPN's box lists the long as 60 and the kicking line as perfect. Dallas improved to 1-1; Washington fell to 0-2.

Dak Prescott threw four touchdown passes and broke Tony Romo's franchise career TD-pass record on the afternoon, the Associated Press reported. CeeDee Lamb and Jake Ferguson handled the scoring catches. Aubrey's work filled every gap between those scores and removed the need to force throws on stalled drives.

Chip shot, then the midrange

Aubrey's 25-yarder in the first quarter made it 10-0 after Lamb's opening touchdown catch. Washington answered with a Drew Stevens field goal, then Ferguson's 10-yard touchdown restored a two-score lead before Diggs pulled Washington within a touchdown in the second quarter.

The third quarter brought the 44-yarder that made it 20-13. Moments later, Jaishawn Barham forced a Dyami Brown fumble and Dee Winters recovered; Ferguson scored again, and Aubrey's kick put Dallas up 27-13. Each make was routine only in the sense that Aubrey makes them look that way - same approach, same tempo, same result.

Sixty yards early in the fourth

With the game still unfinished at 27-13, Aubrey lined up from 60 as the fourth quarter opened. The kick was true, the lead grew to 30-13, and Washington suddenly needed multiple scores without the luxury of a short field or its starting quarterback.

Jayden Daniels had already exited with a dislocated left elbow late in the first half, the AP reported, leaving Marcus Mariota to chase the deficit.

Mariota did answer with a 20-yard touchdown to Stefon Diggs, but Lamb's 24-yard catch - Prescott's record-breaking 249th career touchdown pass as a Cowboy - and Aubrey's final extra point closed the math at 37-20.

Points that travel

Kickers rarely headline a four-touchdown passing day, yet Aubrey's 13 points matched the margin of victory. The 60-yarder especially flipped field-position calculus: a possession that might have been a punt became three points and a longer Washington climb. In September games that can tighten late, that kind of range is as valuable as another receiver in the game plan.

Next up for the Cowboys is Baltimore in Rio de Janeiro next Sunday, per AP notes. Wherever the yard markers sit in Brazil, Dallas already knows its kicker can handle the long ones - and the short ones that keep a lead from leaking.
