People who walk, run or ride the Trinity Trails before sunrise or after sunset have until Tuesday, Nov. 24, to tell the Tarrant Regional Water District what they think of a plan to light one of the system's busiest stretches.
The district announced Tuesday that it is developing the Trinity Lighted Loop, which would put enhanced lighting along 3.3 miles of paved trail. The lit section would stretch between two river crossings: the Phyllis J. Tilley Pedestrian Bridge on the north and the Mistletoe Heights Pedestrian Bridge on the south.
TRWD says the goal is to make the route safer and more efficient for pedestrians, cyclists and other users in the dusk and dawn hours.
Where the idea came from
The project traces back to the district's Recreation Master Plan. While that plan was being written, trail users ranked safety, security and further trail development among their top concerns, according to TRWD. The lighting project falls under two of the plan's strategic initiatives, which the district lists as "Safety & Security Enhancements" and "Continue Trail Development and Key Connections."
The new round of comments is meant to show whether the proposal actually answers what people asked for during the master plan process, the district said. Trail users can also send general reactions to the plans.
