TCU’s Thursday, Oct. 8, schedule produced two very different conference results: a narrow women’s soccer defeat at home and a decisive equestrian victory in the Horned Frogs’ Big 12 opener.

On the soccer field, TCU lost 2–1 to UCF despite taking the lead at 8:25 of the first half. The Knights answered in the 14th and 19th minutes, and neither team scored after halftime at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium. The defeat left TCU 5–5–1 overall and 2–3 in the Big 12.

The Horned Frogs had chances to equalize late, including a saved shot and an effort from outside the penalty area that went high. TCU finished with 10 shots and a 5–3 advantage in corner kicks, but the early lead proved to be its only scoring return.

There is little time before the next home test. TCU is scheduled to finish its three-match home stretch against No. 12 Texas Tech on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. Central. The game is set for ESPNU, giving Fort Worth supporters both an in-person and a television option.

Earlier Thursday, sixth-ranked TCU’s equestrian team beat No. 8 Fresno State 15–4 at KSM Bear Creek Farms in Burleson. The location matters for fans following the Fort Worth program: this was a home meet for TCU, but it was not held on the university’s main campus.

TCU won all four events and collected all four Most Outstanding Performer honors. The meet began with three TCU points and a tie in Fences. Three more points followed in Horsemanship, before a four-point performance on the Flat expanded the advantage. A 5–0 Reining sweep completed the win after the overall result was already secure.

That balance across disciplines distinguished the equestrian result from the soccer team’s frustrating evening. The riding team’s next scheduled competition is an Oct. 23 trip to Baylor in Waco. Soccer’s opportunity to respond arrives much sooner, with Sunday’s ranked opponent bringing another conference test to Fort Worth.
