Personal information belonging to Fort Worth ISD employees was caught up in a nationwide security incident at Frontline Education, a company that sells administrative software to K-12 school districts, the district said this week.
In a statement on its website reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Thursday, Fort Worth ISD said Frontline notified it of the incident, which the company said happened Aug. 14 and was addressed the next day. The district said Frontline will contact affected employees directly.
Crowley ISD, which also reported the incident, told its employees in an email that names, email addresses, home addresses and Social Security numbers may have been exposed, according to the Star-Telegram. Fort Worth ISD's statement, as reported, did not list the types of information involved.
What the company says
Frontline says on a support page that in August it found a vulnerability in a third-party software product that allowed unauthorized access to part of its systems holding data tied to two products, Frontline Central and School Health Management. The company says it fixed the flaw with help from an independent cybersecurity firm, contacted law enforcement and added security controls.
Districts that never used those two products were not affected, it says.
The company says the information involved varies by district and by person. Notices to individuals are coming from frontline@notifications.cyberscout.com or no-reply@support.frontlineed.com, and Frontline says people with questions can write to frontline@transunion.com. The page says employees who received a notice should read it closely, because it lists the kinds of data tied to their district and the help available.
