Paschal's run through its district schedule without dropping a set ended at the first playoff hurdle Friday night, and with it went the last Fort Worth ISD volleyball team still playing.
Mansfield Legacy beat the Panthers 21-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-22 at Arlington High School in the Class 5A Division I bi-district round, according to MaxPreps. Paschal won the opening set and then lost three straight by a combined eight points.
Eagle Mountain, the Fort Worth school in Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD, kept going. The Knights swept Prosper Richland 25-21, 25-12, 25-23 at Keller Timber Creek High School and play Joshua in the area round Monday.
A streak and a season end
Paschal finishes 26-15. The Panthers went 14-0 in district play without losing a set, and Friday's loss snapped a 16-match winning streak that began after a Sept. 1 defeat against Aledo, according to their MaxPreps schedule.
North Side, Arlington Heights and Everman, the other three playoff qualifiers from Paschal's district, all went out on Thursday, so the Panthers carried the district alone into Friday night.
Legacy is 26-16 and has won three in a row. The Broncos play Keller Fossil Ridge at 6 p.m. Tuesday after Fossil Ridge swept Denton Ryan on Friday at Ponder High School.
Carter-Riverside, Fort Worth ISD's other Friday entrant, lost 3-0 at Iowa Park in Class 4A Division II and finishes 16-20-2. Four more FWISD teams, Southwest, Eastern Hills, North Side and Arlington Heights, were eliminated Thursday, according to results compiled by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Eagle Mountain moves on
The Knights are 34-7 and ranked 92nd nationally by MaxPreps. They finished second in District 5-5A at 10-2, with both league losses to Argyle.
Richland stayed close in the first and third sets but scored 12 points in the second.
Eagle Mountain is in its first season in Class 5A after winning the 4A Division II state championship last year, GM Sports Media noted in its playoff preview. The Knights' seven losses came against Austin Westlake, Carrollton Hebron, McKinney North, Plano Prestonwood Christian, Keller Timber Creek and Argyle twice.
They have already beaten Joshua once this season, winning 3-1 on the road Sept. 1. Joshua swept Fort Worth North Side 25-7, 25-8, 25-14 on Thursday. Monday's start time and location were still to be announced as of Saturday.
