School districts that asked North Texas voters for more money on Tuesday came up short across the board, with bond packages in Keller and McKinney ISDs and tax measures in Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD all losing in unofficial county returns.
Keller ISD
Keller ISD, which covers parts of north Fort Worth along with Keller and several neighboring cities, put five propositions totaling $828 million before voters. Tarrant County's results, updated at 2:54 a.m. Wednesday with 63 of 67 precincts counted, showed every one of them losing:
- Proposition A, $756.3 million to repair and renovate 34 campuses and other buildings, with part of Keller Middle School to be rebuilt: 33,451 for (46.6%), 38,335 against
- Proposition B, $28 million for student and staff devices: 43.9% for
- Proposition C, $8.9 million for natatorium repairs: 40.9% for
- Proposition D, $11 million for the district's athletic complex and the fieldhouse at Keller High: 36.1% for
- Proposition E, $23.9 million to put synthetic turf on fields at middle schools and on the high schools' baseball and softball diamonds: 34.5% for
District leaders had said the package would not require raising the tax rate trustees adopted in September, the Fort Worth Report reported. Superintendent Cory Wilson had told the Report that if the bonds failed, building repairs would have to come out of the operating budget, leaving less for salaries and programs.
Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD
In Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD, which also serves part of Fort Worth, about two of every three voters opposed both measures, with all 41 precincts counted. Proposition A would have raised the maintenance and operations tax rate by 4 cents, bringing in about $6.1 million a year; it drew 33.3% support. Proposition B, $20 million in bonds to refinance bus debt, drew 30.3%.
Superintendent Jerry Hollingsworth has said the district may need to cut 197 positions in 2027-28 without the added revenue, compared with 57 if the tax increase passed, according to the Report.
McKinney ISD
All five McKinney ISD propositions failed in Collin County's unofficial count, with all 90 vote centers reporting. Proposition A, a tax rate increase, drew 40.3% support. The four bond measures, totaling $500 million, also lost:
- Proposition B, $430.95 million for school construction and renovations, sites and buses: 43.1% for
- Proposition C, $62 million for instructional technology: 40.1% for
- Proposition D, $4.5 million for the McKinney High School training pool: 36.4% for
- Proposition E, $2.55 million for existing stadium facilities: 30.6% for
Collin College's $600 million bond was also losing in Collin County, 52.5% to 47.5%.
Elsewhere
In Dallas County, the four Irving ISD bond propositions and Mesquite ISD's tax rate election were all trailing. The unofficial results posted by Collin, Dallas, Denton, Grayson and Tarrant counties listed no bond or tax rate question for the Frisco, Plano, Allen, Prosper, Celina, Anna, Melissa, Princeton, Richardson, Dallas, Denton, Little Elm, Lewisville, Fort Worth, Sherman, Denison, Howe, Van Alstyne or Gunter school districts.
