Kay Dominates Early Frames

Anthony Kay secured the victory for the Chicago White Sox by pitching five innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out four batters. His performance provided the foundation for Chicago’s 4-2 win over the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field on Thursday.

Kay surrendered five hits and two walks during his outing, but he kept the Rangers’ offense in check long enough for his team’s bats to take control.

The White Sox took an early lead in the second inning when Meidroth singled to left field, driving in B. Montgomery to make it 1-0. The Rangers responded immediately in the same frame as Cauley homered to right field, tying the game at 1-1. The home run traveled 382 feet, marking the only long ball of the contest.

Fourth-Inning Surge

Chicago broke the tie in the fourth inning, capitalizing on timely hitting. Meidroth singled to right field, bringing Murakami home to put the White Sox ahead 2-1. The rally continued as Benintendi singled to center field, scoring B. Montgomery to extend the lead to 3-1.

B. Montgomery was a central figure in the White Sox offense, driving in multiple runs throughout the game. His scoring came on Meidroth’s second-inning single and Meidroth’s fourth-inning hit. In the sixth inning, Benintendi singled to center field again, allowing Montgomery to cross the plate for his second run of the day, pushing the score to 4-2.

Relief Pitching Seals Win

The White Sox bullpen preserved the lead with scoreless innings. Jordan Hicks pitched one inning with one strikeout, followed by Grant Taylor, who recorded five strikeouts over two innings. Bryan Hudson closed the game with a perfect inning, earning his fourth save of the season with two more strikeouts.

For the Rangers, Cal Quantrill took the loss after allowing two earned runs in three innings. He faced four walks and allowed two hits. Jakob Junis pitched one inning, giving up one earned run on three hits. Robby Ahlstrom, Peyton Gray, and Jacob Latz each pitched one inning of relief, combining to allow no additional runs.

The final attendance was 31,127. The White Sox improved to 54-47, while the Rangers fell to 51-51.
