Benintendi Drives In Three
Benintendi delivered the decisive blow in the fifth inning, doubling to right field to score three runs and lift the Chicago White Sox to a 10-3 victory over the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field on Tuesday. The play broke a 2-2 tie and provided the margin the visitors needed against a Rangers club that could not answer the surge.
The White Sox (53-46) took an early lead when Pederson homered to right center in the top of the first inning. The Rangers (50-50) responded in the second, with Carter singling to right to score Duran, making it 2-1. Chicago regained the lead in the third when Vargas doubled to left, bringing Antonacci home for a 2-1 advantage.
Fifth Inning Changes Everything
The game remained close until the fifth. Antonacci singled to center to tie the game at 2-2. Shortly after, Benintendi’s double to right proved costly for the Rangers. The hit scored Antonacci, Vargas, and Murakami, giving Chicago a 5-2 lead. The White Sox added another run in the seventh when Burger homered to left center, extending the advantage to 6-3.
Late Inning Explosion
The White Sox offense erupted in the ninth inning, tallying five runs to seal the win. Vargas doubled to left to score Meidroth, making it 7-3. Acuña followed with a single to right, driving in two more runs for a 9-3 lead. Grichuk tripled to left to score Acuña, and B. Montgomery doubled to left to bring Grichuk home, finalizing the 10-3 score.
Pitching Performances
Erick Fedde started for Chicago, pitching four innings and allowing five earned runs on seven hits while striking out six. He was relieved by Chris Murphy, who earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings. Jordan Hicks, Seranthony Dominguez, Sean Newcomb, and Trevor Richards each pitched a frame, with Dominguez and Newcomb recording saves.
Jacob deGrom took the loss for Texas, allowing five earned runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings. He was joined in the bullpen by Peyton Gray, Ben Peoples, Robby Ahlstrom, and Jose Corniell, who allowed five earned runs in his inning of work.
