Rookie wide receiver Lewis Bond was elevated from the Texans’ practice squad for their Week 2 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals, giving him a chance to play with Nico Collins unavailable. The move was made through the standard practice squad elevation process.
Collins, a two-time Pro Bowl receiver, is not expected to play against Cincinnati. KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson reported that Collins is dealing with a Grade 1 hamstring injury and could miss two games, including the Texans’ following road game against the Colts. Wilson described the situation as subject to change and said the injury did not appear to be long-term.
Bond is the second player elevated by the Texans for Week 2. Veteran safety and All-Pro special teams player George Odum also received a standard elevation.
The Texans selected Bond in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft with the 204th overall pick. He was released when Houston reduced its roster to 53 players, then returned to the practice squad. His release drew attention because of his preseason work, fit in the offense and popularity with fans.
Houston is expected to use Kayshon Boutte, Xavier Hutchinson, Jared Wayne and Jaylin Noel ahead of Bond at receiver, although the rookie is expected to see playing time. Bond has two remaining practice squad elevations before the Texans must add him to the 53-player roster or choose another player.
