Dare Ogunbowale is returning to the Houston Texans, who are signing the running back from the Las Vegas Raiders to their 53-player roster before Week 4, Sports Illustrated reported. The move brings back a player who spent the 2022 through 2025 seasons with Houston.
Ogunbowale appeared in more than 60 games for the Texans, primarily contributing on special teams. He also recorded 91 carries for 295 yards and three touchdowns during his previous Houston tenure.
The Texans did not re-sign Ogunbowale earlier this offseason, leading to his short stint with the Raiders. His return is expected to add depth, while David Montgomery and Woody Marks remain positioned to handle most of the offensive work. British Brooks could also remain ahead of Ogunbowale in the weekly running back order.
The reason for the signing is not yet clear. One possibility is that Houston is preparing for a potential injury in its current group, although player injury information for Week 4 was not expected to be available until after Wednesday's practice. Another possibility is that the Texans wanted additional depth and a special teams contributor.
Ogunbowale served as a Houston team captain last season and has received praise from coach DeMeco Ryans during his time with the organization. He logged more than 1,000 special teams snaps across his four previous seasons with the Texans.
