The Houston Texans received positive news regarding offensive tackle Braden Smith, who is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks due to a plantar fascia injury in his foot. This injury occurred during a joint practice against the Carolina Panthers, but reports indicate that it is not a long-term issue.
KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson reported on August 27 that Smith's injury is not severe, and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirmed that it is not considered major. Smith, who signed a two-year, $20 million contract with the Texans in the offseason, was anticipated to take over the starting right tackle position. However, his injury has disrupted those plans.
ESPN's Adam Schefter suggested that Smith could be absent for a few weeks, which is preferable to a more serious injury. While Smith recovers, the Texans may not need to rush him back, as Trent Brown, a former Pro Bowl selection, has been performing consistently in his place.
Additionally, the Texans are satisfied with the progress of Blake Fisher, a third-year tackle who has 15 career starts and could serve as a reliable swing tackle.
