TCU is in search of a new starting quarterback following the unexpected transfer of Josh Hoover to Indiana, the reigning national champions. Hoover's departure came after a regular season where TCU finished with an 8-4 record, a season that had initially raised hopes for a successful run toward the Big 12 championship and a potential NFL draft selection.
Prior to Hoover's announcement, TCU's personnel team had already compiled a list of quarterback prospects, not anticipating his transfer. General manager Ryan Dorchester noted that the staff had considered Hoover a key player for the upcoming season, and there was no expectation he would leave Fort Worth. However, they began scouting quarterbacks as a precaution in case he opted for the NFL draft.
The Horned Frogs were specifically looking for an upperclassman with one year of eligibility remaining, as they view high school signee Adam Schobel as their long-term quarterback solution. After Hoover's transfer was confirmed, TCU quickly moved to sign Jaden Craig, a former zero-star recruit who had played well at Harvard for two seasons.
Dorchester first noticed Craig while reviewing film of a former Harvard receiver. He described Craig as efficient and decisive, with a strong arm. As the season progressed, TCU's list of potential quarterbacks grew, but Craig remained a top target.
Despite Hoover's solid performance during the season, he did not attract significant NFL draft interest, leading TCU's coaching staff to believe he would remain with the team. However, head coach Sonny Dykes sensed a change in Hoover's mindset as the season neared its end, indicating that a transfer might be possible.
