Tank Dell’s revised contract with the Houston Texans includes incentives tied to his availability and offensive workload, with the agreement potentially bringing his total earnings to $3.645 million. The terms surfaced Sept. 11, ahead of Houston’s Week 1 matchup with the Buffalo Bills.
The highest earning level requires Dell to be active for the team’s final 13 games and participate in at least half of the Texans’ offensive snaps. Other incentive levels are also included, according to the contract details reported by Troy Chapman of Over The Cap.
Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 reported that the deal adds $1.5 million to Dell’s existing $1.704 million compensation package. That package includes a $1.145 million salary and a $500,000 signing bonus, according to Wilson. Dell can receive $300,000 for reaching a 30% offensive snap share, with another $300,000 available at each 5% increase through 50%.
The agreement also provides $38,461 in roster bonuses for each game Dell is active. He is on injured reserve with a designation allowing a potential return and will miss at least the first four games while recovering from a 2024 knee injury that included a dislocation and torn ligaments.
Wilson said Dell has done some limited work at training camp and is working toward regaining his top speed.
A return could occur as early as Houston’s home game against the Dallas Cowboys, although Dell may need more time once he takes part in 11-on-11 drills. After the Texans open his practice window, the team will have 21 days to make a decision.
If no move is made during that period, Dell would return to injured reserve and miss the 2026 season, though the report said that possibility is not currently a concern.
