TCU safety Jacob Fields has been dismissed from the football team less than two weeks before the season opener against North Carolina. His removal follows a physical altercation with a teammate that reportedly took place in the locker room on August 13, as noted in the TCU crime and fire log.
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the altercation was described as an aggravated assault. A source indicated that Fields was involved in a fight with an offensive player and had previously felt targeted by his teammates through insults and threats, including instances of being spat on.
Prior to the incident, Fields had reached out to the coaching staff multiple times regarding the escalating tensions but did not receive a response. Fields transferred to TCU from Louisiana Tech this offseason and was expected to start at free safety for the Horned Frogs.
In 2025, Fields was recognized as the Conference USA Co-Defensive Player of the Year, having started all 12 games for Louisiana Tech. He led the team with 92 tackles and recorded three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. Fields also contributed 2.5 tackles for loss and five pass breakups last season.
