The New England Patriots made a significant roster move by trading wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans. In exchange, the Patriots received Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round draft pick in 2028.
Boutte, who is 24 years old, found himself in a crowded receiving corps after the Patriots added AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs to their lineup. Alongside Boutte, DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism were also competing for positions, leading to Boutte being seen as the odd man out.
Patriots coach Mike Vrabel explained that the trade provided a better opportunity for Boutte, who is in the final year of his rookie contract. He noted that without injuries, Boutte would likely have remained inactive during games due to his limited role in special teams.
"That was one place where we do have some depth, and I think for all parties involved, that was probably the best thing," Vrabel stated.
Last season, Boutte played in 14 games, recording 33 receptions for 551 yards and achieving a career-high six touchdowns. Vrabel mentioned that trading Boutte was a difficult decision, highlighting the player's commendable attitude and growth. He expressed his respect for Boutte, stating, "I tried to thank Kayshon as many times as I could."
