Dallas Cowboys safety Jalen Thompson left the Week 3 game against the Baltimore Ravens after his left leg bent awkwardly during a tackle attempt in the second quarter. He left the field limping and went to the blue medical tent.
Thompson was later identified as having a hamstring injury and was listed as questionable to return. Alijah Clark entered the game in his place.
The injury came after Dallas had already lost several defensive backs. Free safety Malik Hooker suffered a forearm injury in Week 1, followed by a hamstring injury to starting cornerback Cobie Durant in Week 2. PJ Locke, who replaced Hooker, also sustained a foot injury.
Before the Ravens game, Dallas promoted slot defender Reddy Steward from its practice squad. Rookie first-round selection Caleb Downs had been playing in that role to begin the season and has college experience at safety.
Markquese Bell started alongside Thompson in Week 3. Bell was penalized for defensive pass interference on a play that set up Derrick Henry's second touchdown of the first half.
