BJ Edwards, a former guard for the SMU Mustangs, has announced his commitment to the Oklahoma Sooners. This decision comes after his time at SMU, where he averaged 12.7 points per game last season. The commitment was reported by Joe Tipton of On3.
Edwards played three seasons at SMU after transferring from the University of Tennessee, where he had a brief stint. He participated in 28 games last season, despite facing injuries, and contributed significantly with 5.9 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game. His defensive skills earned him All-Conference defensive team honors in the ACC, with an impressive average of 2.4 steals per game.
While SMU showed interest in keeping him, Edwards opted to join head coach Porter Moser in Norman. The Sooners are looking to enhance their roster after finishing the last season with a 21-16 record and missing the NCAA Tournament. The addition of Edwards is anticipated to strengthen the team's competitiveness for the upcoming winter season.
