The Dallas Cowboys released running back Israel Abanikanda and added Tyler Goodson to the roster after the team’s rushing attack produced 69 yards in its Week 1 loss to the New York Giants.
Abanikanda appeared in six NFL games, all with the New York Jets in 2023, before Dallas made the roster change. He was a standout at Pitt, where he ran for 1,431 yards and 20 touchdowns on 239 carries during his final college season in 2022.
Goodson joined the Cowboys from the Atlanta Falcons, according to the report. The move gives Dallas a new option in the backfield while ending Abanikanda’s time with the team.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer also addressed the running game after the loss. He said the Giants’ defensive front created too much penetration early and that Dallas was physically challenged at the line of scrimmage. Schottenheimer said the team made adjustments after halftime.
