Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway has been ruled out of the team’s Week 2 game against Prairie View A&M after sustaining a high-ankle sprain in the season-opening loss to Auburn. Nate Bennett will make his first career start, Pete Thamel reported.
Lagway finished the Auburn game despite the injury. He completed 27 of 54 passes for 333 yards, two touchdowns and one interception as Baylor lost 17-16.
Baylor scored a touchdown in the final seconds against Auburn and attempted a two-point conversion instead of trying to send the game to overtime. The attempt failed. Coach Dave Aranda has not indicated whether Lagway’s health affected that decision.
On3 had earlier reported that Lagway was considered doubtful for the Prairie View A&M matchup. Aranda had described the quarterback as day-to-day, and a source told On3 that Lagway had been trying to play through the injury.
