Baylor will be without defensive tackle Devonte Tezino for the rest of the season after he injured his leg during the Bears’ victory over Prairie View A&M on Saturday.

Tezino became a major contributor inside the defensive front early in the season. He produced two sacks against Auburn, and coach Dave Aranda later described him as likely the team’s top interior defensive lineman after the opener.

“I just feel horrible for him,” Aranda said, referring to the work Tezino had put in before the injury. Aranda added that Baylor would miss the junior-sized? No age not given. Need no unsupported.

Baylor now will rely more heavily on its other defensive linemen. Aranda identified Braylen Jackson as one player who could receive additional chances, citing Jackson’s ability to play forcefully and defend against the run.

The Bears still have players available along the interior, but Tezino’s absence puts added pressure on that group to maintain the disruption and physical play the defensive front provided during the first two games. Baylor had also lost senior safety Jacob Redding, a defensive leader, to a torn ACL before opening against Auburn.

The injury and replacement plans were reported by sports.yahoo.com.
