TCU lost 21-13 to Central Florida in Orlando, leaving the Horned Frogs at 2-2 and 0-2 against Power Four opponents. The defeat came in the Big 12 opener for both teams and followed a game in which TCU committed 11 penalties for 86 yards, finished two turnovers behind UCF and averaged 1.2 yards per rushing attempt.
The result also changed the outlook for TCU’s Oct. 3 home game against No. 9 BYU. The Horned Frogs had entered the season aiming to start 4-0 and draw ESPN’s “College GameDay” to Fort Worth for the matchup. Instead, TCU is averaging 11.5 points per game after its first month.
The loss also raised the possibility of a quarterback change. Jaden Craig, who transferred from Harvard during the offseason, remains ahead of sophomore Adam Schobel on the depth chart. Schobel did not play as a freshman in 2025 and has thrown one pass this season.
Against North Carolina and UCF, Craig has completed 45 of 72 passes for 485 yards, with two interceptions and no touchdowns. He has also been credited with 10 rushing attempts for minus-38 yards in those games, with sacks counted in college football rushing statistics.
The source noted that Craig has received limited assistance from his receivers but has struggled to make plays when the pocket breaks down.
A change could be complicated by Craig’s compensation. The report says he signed with TCU for more money than Schobel, making a decision to remove the starter a financial and personnel issue in the current college football environment.
TCU could continue with Craig against BYU, while a first start for Schobel could instead come at Baylor on Oct. 17, following the team’s bye week and two weeks of potential first-team preparation.
