Texas Tech has secured a future non-conference opponent by adding Texas State to its football schedule for the 2030 season. The Red Raiders will host the Bobcats on Sept. 14, according to a report from FBSchedules.com that cited a contract obtained through an open-records request.

Under the terms of the agreement, Texas Tech is obligated to pay Texas State a game guarantee of $1.2 million. This addition completes the Red Raiders' non-conference slate for 2030. The season will begin with a matchup against Arkansas at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Aug. 31, followed by a home game against Fresno State on Sept. 7.

Despite filling the 2030 slot, Texas Tech still needs to secure one non-conference opponent for each of the years 2027, 2028, and 2029. The current need to find multiple opponents on a compressed timeline stems from several recent scheduling changes.

Mississippi State canceled a two-game series originally set for 2028 and 2029 without incurring a penalty due to a change in the SEC scheduling model. North Carolina State exercised a buyout option for a 2027 home game in Lubbock, owing Texas Tech $1 million by Feb. 15, 2028.

Additionally, Texas Tech chose to buy out a 2027 road game at North Texas, agreeing to pay the Mean Green $1 million within 60 days after the original game date.

The Red Raiders currently have two non-conference home games scheduled for each of the years 2027 through 2029. For 2027, those opponents are Arkansas-Pine Bluff and New Mexico. In 2028, Texas Tech will host Stephen F. Austin and Wyoming. The 2029 slate includes home games against Incarnate Word and Missouri State.

Other notable schedule adjustments include the cancellation of a 2034 home game against Arizona by mutual agreement in August 2025. That contest was originally scheduled for 2020 before being delayed by the pandemic. Similarly, the 2032 road game at UTEP and the 2028 home game against Wyoming were both pushed back from their original 2020 dates.

The 2034 home game against Arkansas was moved from its original 2030 slot after the schools agreed to play in the Vegas Kickoff Classic. The date for that 2030 matchup remains flexible, targeting Labor Day weekend but potentially shifting if NCAA legislation standardizes the season start.

The 2033 road game at Oregon was also adjusted from its original 2024 date to allow Oregon and Oregon State to maintain their rivalry schedule. Details on a canceled 2025 game at Colorado State and a 2026 matchup were not fully detailed in the provided contract information.
