Eric Trevino, 47, is being held in the Tarrant County Jail on a $340,000 bond following his arrest on charges of murder, tampering with physical evidence, and evading arrest with a vehicle. The charges stem from the death of Tomas Garcia, 39, who was found dead inside his home in the 3600 block of North Houston Street on August 29.
Garcia, who had been paralyzed and unable to walk for 20 years, was discovered by first responders with significant blood on the floor and signs of a physical struggle.
Court documents indicate that investigators found a rifle on the bed and an empty pistol box on the floor, but the pistol itself was missing. Garcia’s cellphone had a bullet hole through the screen, and several fired cartridge casings were scattered in the room. Garcia’s mother told detectives that she last saw her son the previous night while he was with Trevino.
Surveillance video captured Trevino leaving the residence shortly before 3:30 a.m. on August 29, with his face covered by a gray T-shirt.
Trevino was located in his vehicle on August 30 after committing a traffic violation. He refused to stop when officers attempted to pull him over and was later arrested in south Fort Worth. During his interview with homicide detectives, Trevino stated that he and Garcia had been drinking alcohol and taking Percocet.
He claimed Garcia pointed a loaded gun at him, leading to a struggle in which Trevino allegedly headbutted, punched, and elbowed Garcia in the head and face. Trevino told police the gun discharged during the altercation and that Garcia told him he was dying.
