A man died Monday morning in northeast Fort Worth after stabbing himself while officers were trying to take him into custody, the Fort Worth Police Department said.

Officers responded at about 7:23 a.m. to a reported disturbance at a business in the 2500 block of Northeast 36th Street, according to police.

Police said the man had pulled onto the property in a vehicle with two flat tires, gotten out and was walking around the site with a dog. When officers arrived, police said, he cursed at them and showed a knife.

Officers gave him commands and then used a Taser. Police said the man stabbed himself after he was hit with the Taser. Officers tried to save him, but he died at the scene.

The man's name has not been released. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office will identify him and determine the cause and manner of death.

Anyone experiencing emotional distress or thoughts of self-harm can call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, at any hour.
