A single-story frame residence at 3513 Ave. J in Fort Worth was engulfed in flames early Thursday morning, resulting in one fatality and one critical injury. The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m., prompting a response from the Fort Worth Fire Department to the property.
Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire and immediate interior obstructions. Officials identified the home as having severe hoarding conditions, with belongings stacked throughout the structure. These barriers significantly impeded firefighter movement and visibility during the initial phases of the operation.
Firefighters managed to locate a man and a woman trapped inside the burning structure. Both individuals were in critical condition when found. Paramedics administered life-saving treatment to the male victim at the scene, but he was later pronounced dead. The female victim was airlifted to a local hospital for emergency care.
The accumulation of combustible materials inside the house intensified the fire's intensity and raised temperatures to dangerous levels. This environment created substantial risks for the responding personnel. Two firefighters suffered heat-related injuries while battling the blaze and conducting the rescue. Both were transported to an area hospital and are expected to recover fully.
Craig Trojacek, a public information officer for the fire department, noted that the cluttered interior made the search difficult. He explained that the volume of items increased the heat and forced crews to push through barriers constantly. Trojacek highlighted that such conditions increase the likelihood of injuries to first responders.
