Dallas is about 31 miles east of Fort Worth.

A 56-year-old man has died following an early morning shooting in southern Dallas, authorities confirmed. Police responded to reports of a shooting around 2:15 a.m. on July 2 in the 3500 block of La France Street.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Charles Baldwin had been shot. Dallas Fire-Rescue transported him to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Preliminary investigations indicate that Baldwin was shot by a suspect who was known to him, according to police statements.

The Dallas Police Department has stated that the case will be referred to a grand jury. Under Texas law, homicide cases where potential justification or legal defenses may apply are frequently presented to a grand jury to determine if criminal charges are warranted.
