FORT WORTH, Texas — Lockheed Martin has been awarded $2.2 billion in defense contracts during June, including a major contract for F-35 Lightning II fighter jet maintenance, according to the Fort Worth Report.

The defense contractor, which builds the F-35 at its Fort Worth aeronautics facility, is one of Tarrant County's largest private employers. The F-35 program supports thousands of jobs across North Texas in manufacturing, engineering, and sustainment roles.

The F-35 is the Pentagon's most expensive weapons program and is flown by the U.S. Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps, as well as allied nations around the world. Lockheed Martin's Fort Worth plant is the primary production site for the stealth fighter.

The June contract awards come as defense spending remains a focus in Washington, with lawmakers debating future military appropriations. Lockheed Martin's Fort Worth operations have continued to grow as the F-35 program expands its international customer base.

Lockheed Martin employs thousands of workers at its Fort Worth facility and supports an extensive supply chain of Texas-based subcontractors. The company's aeronautics division is headquartered in Fort Worth and is the city's largest manufacturing employer.
