Late Kick Seals Narrow Win
Spencer Shrader’s 53-yard field goal with 16 seconds remaining proved decisive as the Indianapolis Colts defeated the Houston Texans 19-17 on Sunday. The game concluded at Lucas Oil Stadium before a crowd of 63,400, giving Indianapolis its first win of the season. The victory improved the Colts to 1-2, while the Texans fell to 0-3.
The final margin of two points was the result of a frantic fourth quarter that saw the score change hands multiple times.
Scoring Sequence
The Colts established an early lead in the first quarter when Shrader connected on a 39-yard field goal. Indianapolis extended their advantage to 10-0 in the second quarter on a six-yard touchdown pass from Daniel Jones to Keenan Allen, followed by Shrader’s 58-yard field goal. Houston responded with a one-yard touchdown pass from C.J.
Stroud to Foster Moreau to cut the deficit to 13-7. The third quarter saw no scoring, setting the stage for a dramatic finish. In the fourth, Shrader kicked a 37-yard field goal to make it 16-7.
Ka'imi Fairbairn then narrowed the gap with a 24-yard field goal. Woody Marks rushed for a one-yard touchdown to give Houston a 17-16 lead, but Shrader answered with the game-winning 53-yard kick.
