Brown’s Strikeout Pile
The Houston Astros defeated the Kansas City Royals 4-2 on Wednesday, September 16, at Daikin Park. The decisive factor for the home club was the pitching of Hunter Brown, who recorded 10 strikeouts in five innings. Brown allowed two hits and one earned run while issuing three walks to secure the win, improving his record to 6-3.
The Astros bullpen provided steady relief, with Bennett Sousa, AJ Blubaugh, and Bryan Abreu each pitching one inning without allowing earned runs. Josh Hader closed the game with a save, striking out one batter and allowing one hit. The final attendance was 28,635.
Peña’s Early Power
The Astros built their lead quickly through the bat of Jeremy Peña. In the first inning, Peña homered to left center for a run, giving Houston a 1-0 lead. He added a second home run in the third inning, this time to left, extending the advantage to 2-0.
The Royals managed to score one run in the fifth inning when Jensen doubled to left and Collins scored. However, the Astros responded immediately in the same frame. Yordan Alvarez homered to right, scoring Peña and pushing the lead to 4-1.
This was Alvarez’s 39th home run of the season.
