Fort Worth opens free contractor academy; information sessions set for Oct. 8 and 13

Small construction businesses can apply for a free Fort Worth training program designed to help them qualify for and bid on city projects.

The city announced its Construction Training Academy on Sept. 30. The first cohort begins Nov. 12, 2026 and continues through Jan. 21, 2027, combining online and in-person classes. Topics include estimating, bidding, bonding, insurance and business operations.

Registration is limited to one person per firm. Businesses must be certified or eligible for Small Business Enterprise certification, have an address in Tarrant, Denton, Johnson, Parker or Wise county, and be registered to operate in Texas. Applicants also need one to two years of construction or related experience and any required trade license.

Two information sessions are scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m.: Oct. 8 at the Devoyd Jennings Business Assistance Center, 1150 South Freeway, and Oct. 13 at Accelerate Fort Worth, at the same address in Suite 600.

The application is open and says space is limited. No application deadline is listed. A second cohort is scheduled for February through April 2027.
